Evaluate Your Skill Sets

If you want to start freelance writing but don’t know where to begin, an excellent place to start is to sit down and make a list of the areas where you feel confident in your skills and knowledge. Do a complete self-assessment and include everything you know something about even if those areas don’t seem relevant to your writing work.

Once the list is made, ask yourself what kind of basic questions a beginner might have about those skills. Voila! You’ve found a few good topics to write about as a new freelancer. That’s not to say you can’t write about things you know nothing about–research is an important part of being a good freelance writer. But your most profitable writing may come from the areas you know best…at least in the beginning of your career.
