Avoiding the Social Media Time Eraser

lukasSocial media is an important marketing and networking tool for freelance writers but when you’ve got deadlines up to here (your nose, for instance) and time is running out, you may not be able to spend as much time networking as usual.

Of course, as your deadline looms closer and your mind starts to wander, you may find yourself on Facebook and Twitter writing about that baloney sandwich you had for lunch even though you should be focused on that deadline. Before you know it, you’ve wasted another day on mindless chatter and your deadline is only getting closer.

To avoid this, turn your wifi off. Yes, just turn it off, unplug the internet hard wire thingie–do whatever you’ve got to do in order to restrict your access to the internet and then start writing. It may seem rash but sometimes removing the temptation is the only way to achieve your goal–think about it, when you are on a diet do you keep chocolate cake in the house?
